Asian Football Cup among the best
The Asian Cup is a soccer tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation. The winner is declared champion of Asia and receives the right to participate in the FIFA Confederations Cup.
The championship is held every four years since 1956. Most often – four times – the team of Japan won the Cup. In the tournament, held in 2011, ended with the victory of the Japanese team.
From 1956 to 1968 was held only the group stage.
Asia Football Cup 2022 is a soccer tournament among the national teams of the Asian Football Confederation member countries and will be held from April 5 to October 22. For the first time, 24 teams will play in the Asian Cup. The winner will take part in the Confederations Cup, which will also be held presumably in one of the Asian countries.
Choosing a host country
The bidding procedures and selection schedule were approved at the AFC Congress.
Selection Format
A total of 24 teams will participate in the Asia Cup, 13 of which have already been decided. There are 11 spots remaining. The formula for further selection will be as follows – a playoff for the teams with the worst results, which will determine the two participants in the group qualifying round.
The Asian Football Cup is a significant event in the sporting life of this continent. It is the key tournament among Asian national soccer teams and is held every four years, the year after the World Cup.
Biggest score
It was in the final match of the tournament recorded in 1980 in Kuwait. Home team defeated the team of South Korea with a score of 3-0.
The winner of the last tournament received $5 million, the finalist three. Total prize money – $ 14 million.
There is also the Asian Women’s Football Cup (formerly known as the AFC Women’s Championship), a competition among women’s national teams belonging to the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament is the main women’s competition on the continent. To date, 18 tournaments have been held. At the last championship, Japan has won. The tournament is also a qualifying competition for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The tournament was organized by the Asian Women’s Football Confederation (ALFC). The first cup was held in 1975 and is usually held every two years, except during the 1980s, when the competition was held every three years.
The next tournament will be held and will also be a qualifier for the 2022 Women’s World Cup.
