Libema Open returns!
The Libema Open returns after a two-year absence. The ATP/WTA international grass-court tournament Autotron’s-Hertogenbosch will take place from 16 – 24 April, 2022.
The Libema Open is an international tennis tournament held in Rosmalen, near Hertogenbosch. The gentlemen’s, women’s and doubles competition takes place on the open courts of the Autotron.
Each year the tournament attracts top tennis players and guests from home and abroad. Past international tournament winners at Rosmalen include Lleyton Hewitt, Sheng Schalken, David Ferrer, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin. The gentlemen’s singles tournament is now part of the ATP World Tour 250, and the women’s tournament is part of the WTA International Tournament Series.
The first tournament
was held on the grass court in Rosmalen in 1989 and was considered a test event involving eight international players. Miloslav Mecirz, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist, won on the Autotron grass courts. A year later, in 1990, the tournament became part of the newly created ATP Tour, and Amos Mansdorf won the tournament. At the time, the Rosmalen tournament was the only grass-court tournament on the European mainland.
In 1996, women’s singles and doubles competitions were added to the tournament. Anke Huber was the first winner, while Hlasek/Stich (men) and Neiland/Schultz (women) won the doubles competition.
Up until and including 2014, the tournament was held the week before Wimbledon and was considered a pre-Wimbledon tournament. Since 2015, the grass tournament in Rosmalen has been held the week after Roland Garros and is still considered the perfect preparation for Wimbledon, the largest and leading grass tournament in the world.
Previously, the event was called the Heineken Trophy, Ordina Open, UNICEF Open, Topshelf Open and RICOH Open. As of 2018, the tournament is called the Libema Open.
The Libema Open is a public event and will be held this year with a 100% capacity for spectators and fans.
Attending an international tennis tournament means a great day out for the whole family, business people and the company of friends.
The Libema Opens women’s tournament is currently classified as an international tournament. The men’s tournament is an ATP 250 tournament. According to the number of world ranking points the winner can earn.
The WTA has aligned the names of all tournaments with those of the ATP Tour. The Rosmalen Grass Tournament will be the 250th tournament for women.
Categories on the ATP and WTA Tour are now designated as 250, 500 and 1000 tournaments.
